Week 3: Thursday, February 8, 2018

  • Seminar 1: Business Model & Customer Discovery Process
    • Location – Crews Center for Entrepreneurship, University of Memphis
    • It will start at 5:30 PM.
    • Presented by Mike Hoffmeyer, Director, Crews Center for Entrepreneurship
      • Michael Hoffmeyer is a veteran entrepreneur, technologist, and electronic payments expert, serving as a founder, board member, and/or C-suite executive in five payments-related startups since 1997. Michael currently serves as the director for the Crews Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Memphis, where he leverages his experience and passion in entrepreneurship to support, teach, advise, and mentor entrepreneurially-minded students and faculty at the University and across the Memphis community.

Week 4: Thursday, February 15, 2018

  • Seminar 2: Regulatory Affairs

    • We will have two speakers: Kathy Doelling, Senior Compliance and Coding Advisor at Butler Snow, LLP and Dawn N. Norman, MS, Exec. Vice President at MRC/X, LLC.
      • Dawn has spent the last spent 19 years in the medical device industry working with venture capital backed start-ups and larger companies alike. She focuses on regulatory strategy and submissions, quality systems, along with clinical study design and study execution, for products such as, magnetic navigation devices for neurosurgical, neurovascular and cardiac indications, high intensity ultrasound for cardiac ablation, recombinant proteins for bone fusion, dental, orthopedic trauma and imaging technologies.
        Dawn received a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences and Chemistry, and a Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Week 5: Thursday, February 22, 2018

    • Presented by Hemant Gupta, Attorney at Butler Snow LLP. Link to bio page.
      • Hemant Gupta heads up the intellectual property practice at Butler Snow. As a member of the business services group, he works with innovative companies with a particular focus on advising them on strategies for long term value growth, including patent and trade secret protection, branding and trademarks, and copyrights. He received his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and worked at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while working on a masters at University of Memphis in molecular biology. Although his focus is on biotech companies, he also closely works with software companies and cloud service providers.
